Abs Problem// Help

I have a 2003 gmc 4x4,when i come to a stop on dry pavement ,periodically the abs system will activate.this happens when braking softly or during hard brakingusually just before the vehical comes to a stop.any help will be appreciated.thanks

I, and many other have had the same problem. There may have been a recall or at least a TSB on this for 99-02 trucks if memory serves me correctly.

 

Most of us who have had the problem had no error code or dash light come on.

 

The problem is often the wheel speed sensors in the front wheel hubs become mis-aligned due to corrosion between the sensor and the surface of the hub. There are several write-ups on how to correct this, and it should only take an hour or so to do. My experience was that you really have to get in there and clean the hub surface well to remove all of the corrosion down to bare metal before re-installing the sensor. I went at it with a wire brush the first time and that was not enough. Went with a dremel tool the second time, and it solved the problem.
