I'm New...but Someone Help!

I just purchased a 2008 Yukon Denali. We love our new car, it's wondeful! However, I have a couple concerns.

First, our navigation system is CONSTANTLY making a "buzzing" sound, like a CD is stuck. I took into our GM dealership, and they said this noise is normal and NEVER goes away. Is this true?

The sound has become so annoying, we can even hear it when our radio is on, or when our kids are watching a DVD. The sound is on while the car is on, while it's off, ALWAYS.

Why would GM make something like this?

My second question is, is there a way to view or manage a DVD while in drive mode? I noticed there's a security feature that doesn't allow this, is there a way to bypass this?

Why wouldn't GM allow the driver to view the DVD or at least manage it when it's in?

My wife has to literally reach around the DVD screen on top with the remote and try to start the movie if she switches it while we're driving...it's frustrating.

Thanks!

Sounds like you're getting a lot of feedback in your stereo maybe.

I know that in my truck you can hear noise coming from the speakers when its on (not music), or when its off and the retained accessory power is still active. It is not as bad as what you are saying yours is though.

There is a way to watch the video from the front while driving. I believe you have to order a device called a Loc-Pick. Others will chime in I'm sure if I'm incorrect.

The cooling fans in those radios can be kinda loud sometimes. That's why the dealer told you it was normal. You could throw three or four of these radios at it and all of them could have the same noise from the cooling fan.

The dvd controls are not accessible from the head unit because GM doesn't want to be liable for a customer driving into oncoming traffic because they are chaging the dvd settings for their children in the back seat. I have heard of ways to unlock that feature but I've never read up on it much, myself.

I actually just noticed a made a typo...I meant to say why wouldn't GM allow the PASSANGER to have access to the DVD player...not the driver. I get the safety part, but if we're driving and we need to access the DVD menu or something, than my wife has to literally climb to the back of the car so the DVD screen can read the control...it's very annoying.

The sound thing is bothering us so much...not sure what we're going to do...

I know I've seen Bypasses sold on Ebay but don't see one right now. And... Congrats and Welcome!

Thanks for all the feedback.

One other question, our vehicle only came with one key, we're being told to make a duplicate copy it's going to cost at mininum $50, due to a chip in the key.

Is this true?

I contacted GM Corporate, but they were no help, they didn't even want to meet me half way on it...and the dealership won't budge either where we purchased the car.

One more question.....is there a video that shows step by step out to use the navigation system on an '08 Yukon Denali?

I'm finding it difficult to understand, and the manual isn't much help.

Thanks.

Update:

So I discovered what was making the noise, even AFTER I took it into the local GM dealership and they said it was a standard noise.

It was the navigation CD that's actually behind the stereo. It's constantly updating itself, even when the vehicle is turned off. So it makes a "buzzing" sound.

All I did was read the manual, which says to go into the navigation menu and press open, the entire face opens and the navigation CD pops out. It doesn't actually eject from the CD/DVD holder on the stereo.

Very upsetting that not even my local GM dealership knew this...

so anyways, when we're not using the navigation, we just take the CD out...

I do hear the DVD from time to time, but not always. It will spin up/down when you put the key in/out of the ignitiion. I think it might too when you open a door. I guess the system wants to be ready for you.

However, the noise shouldn't be that noticable that you have to remove the DVD. It's possible that the DVD is not a good DVD, thus causing extra noise.

Does the dealership have another DVD you could try ?

The noise coming from our radio was constant, it never went away. But I will ask the dealership about a new one, that's a good point.

I'd rather leave the navigation CD in there, because now everytime we want to use the navigation we have to put the CD in.

regarding the original question about why GM does not allow messing with the DVD while driving. It is very simple, liability. nuf said.

Yea, I get that..it's just frustrating that not even the passanger can access the DVD functions in front.

Right now, if my wife needs to do anything to the DVD while we're driving, she has to literally get out of her seat and walk to the back to point the remote at the screen.

Which IMO is just as dangerous.

Just kind of annoying.
