Is This Normal Behavior While Watching Video Via The Rear Aux Input

I have a 2007 Suburban with factory NAV and RSE. When I connect my iPod through the rear seat AUX input, I can watch it on the HU (assuming I'm in park) and hear it through the speakers, but nothing displays on the 2nd row, ceiling mounted screen. The only way I could get it to display on the rear screen was to switch the HU to a different function (XM, FM, etc) and obviously, when you do that, you can only get the audio via the wireless headsets or the wired headset ports. Is there no way to get it to display on the rear screen and play through the stereo's speakers (w/o paying for an expensive lockpick?

Something sounds wrong. I have a 2010 avalanche and if the ipod touch or iPad is plugged into rear inputs I get video on both screens and over the speakers while in park. The front screen blanks out in gear but sound is still there.

I use mine like this all the time because I hate carrying dvds for my kid so I rip her movies to my ipod.
