I Got A New Beater!

So gas prices are going up and my wallet getting thin! My daily (s-10 xtreme) was getting worn out (200K mi) and still had another year or so before I had to spend money on tires, clutch job, AC work, and front suspension work (around $1500) so I parked it. My plans are to do a motor swap (LS1)... fun street car.

I replaced it with a 2011 VW Jetta. This thing is a huge upgrade from my little S-10 in performance and luxury. lol

btw thats not a beater...i was going this would be like "i parked my truck and got a 93 lumina"

Hell yea 45 mpg!!!

BUT.... $6-8K more for diesel model (TDI) and $1.00 more at the pump... that's a lot to mess with!

i wish you better luck than i had with my 2003 Jetta VR6 6MT. that thing was a blast to drive, but a freaking money-pit. $90 oil changes due to synthetic oil and a bastardized filter...ridiculous. my electric fan took a dump...my checking account became $400 lighter. i'm sure your 2011 is a different beast altogether, but i wish you luck all the same.

Not really... Im a lite sleeper, but thank for asking. lol

I know that was a poor excuse to buy a new car. But driving a 12yr old truck with a manual was really the only excuse to buy a new car... it was way over due. Plus the wife can now drive the "other" car (she didn't know how to drive a manual). lol

Thanks! I don't have to worry about that for another 3yrs… maintenance free from VW. Did you have the diesel model?

I've read about wiring/elec. issues from older VW models. Hopefully, this won't be a issue since they change canbus wiring in the new Jettas?

Nice ride man.

They come nicely equipped.....even the most basic models are nicely equipped....quiet as all hell inside.

Good choice.

....and for what its worth...you don't need an excuse to get a new car...I bought a car and a truck, and it was just short of an impulse buy. We looked at them on Sunday night after hours, and went in on Monday and bought them.
