Brake Light Problem

Recommended Posts

My brake lights on my 05 2500HD quit working. the Tail lights work, the turn signal and hazards work, the reverse lights work, and the trird brake light works as it should.

I also checked all the fuse's and relays. and every other system was tested and works as it should. I heard something about a recall but i was told that only if the cruise didnt work was it a recall problem but my cruise works fine

I believe you probably have a bad switch down by the brake pedal. Check to make sure nothing came disconnected down there. The system is set up so that one light will always come one if the other 2 go out (non-burn out)

thats what i am thinking, however a friend on mine told me that since the cruise and the high mount still work that the problem is the turn signal switch on the column. I dont want to open up my column for no reason.... does this sound like a possibilty of it being my problem??

I think you need two brake/park bulbs for the back as what you're describing sounds like the high/brake filament in those bulbs has gone out, the low/park filament will last forever though. The turn sig bulbs are separate, thus they still work.

Thinking the exact same thing.

If you have a test light, get someone to hit the brakes to see if it lights up before you buy the bulbs.

The brake light switch at the pedal is essentially two in one - one side controls the CC and CHMSL, the other the actual brake lights. I think that's your problem...

Got it fixed....... it was the turn signal switch on the steering column. The brake light signal is routed thru there for some reason and that is where it splits into two different signals. one for the brake lights and one for the third brake light and trailer plug.
