mystery oil level on a 6.0???

I just changed oil on my truck today and put 6qts. in it, now it has the check oil level light on, it is full. It wasn't right at the start even with 6qts. what is going on here and what is the exact amount, book doesn't say from what I've seen, anybody?? thanks in advance.

My manual says 6.0 quarts with the filter change for a 6.0L engine.  I bet you have a faulty sensor.  I have a faulty coolant level sensor in my truck right now.  I had a "low coolant level" message in the message center last week and when I pulled over and checked everything was full...

I went out after supper , started and no more message, thats good at least until the next time,  can you reset your computer for oil changes, I didn't wait until the light, I just had a good sunny dry day and thought it would be good to get it done, the garage is full right now, anyway can this be done?  thanks  for the help.

Yep, can reset the light by having the key turned to run...push the accelerator down I believe it's 3 times in 5 seconds or vice versa(it's in the manual).  The change oil light will flash letting you know it's been reset.

I also had an intermittant "Low Coolant Level" warning. I would turn off the motor and re-start and it would go away. I found that my coolant was about 1/4 inch below the grate in the overflow reservoir so I added some water up to that grate and it hasn't come back on yet. I can't believe it is that sensitive. I also get an intermittant "Security" warning while I'm driving and also goes away if I turn the truck off/on. I'll worry about that one when the truck shuts off on its own!!

Look in your manual under Capacities and it will have a complete break down of what oils and fluids they recomend and how much should be used plus the Delco part numbers for filters and such...
