OK gang, a week ago I bought a 2003 1500HD LT Crew Cab.  It took them a while to find it because of the things I wanted on it.  It didn't have the off road tires but I bought it anyway.  I figured I could live with the tires until they wore out & then change them.  Well I can't waid that long.  It has 245/75R16 street tires on it.  It looks goofy, that big of a 4X4 truck with street tires on it.  OK So I was at Cosco (similar to Sam's) the other day & they have 265/75R16 BFGoodrich All Terrian TA's for $159 each, that includes all mounting, balancing & road hazard.  I almost bought them.  But I am thinking I would rather have 285/75R16.  Does anyone know if these will fit on the factory aluminum wheels?  And more so will they fit on the truck without lifting it?  Does anyone know the width of the factory aluminum wheels?

Thanks, Scot

the 285's will fit fine,I run the 305's on mine without any probs, you may want to tweak the torsion bars a bit.I believe the factory wheels are 7" or 7.5" wide...Gun

they have 265/75R16 BFGoodrich All Terrian TA's for $159 each

 That is kinda expensive in my book.  Especially when most places have the 285s for right around $155.

I paid $155.99 each for my 285s

The 6 lug aluminum wheels used on the 1/2 tons are 16x7's, but I thought the 8 lug aluminum wheels used on the HD's and 1500HD's were either 16x6, or 16x6.5.  ???

I have a friend with an 01 1500 HD. He replaced his stock tires with 285/75 BFG AT KO's and they fit fine and looked 100 times better.  :thumb:

Ryan,

Did you have to pay extra for mounting & balancing on top of the $155?  I have seen some places charge $10 for mounting, $10 for balancing, $7 for road hazard, & then $2 to trash your old tires.  At Cosco the 265's were $159 & that includes all mounting & balancing & road hazard, then it was .25 cents to trash old tires.  I am going to see if they can get the 285's.

only thing extra was disposal of old tires ($3 each) and the road hazard if i wanted it which i didnt want to spend like $15-20 per tire

If you put 35x14.5x16.5's on with a 6" RCD the front will rub. but It looks great!!!

I think I'm going to add some 1" or 2" spacers on the front shocks in addition to some bumper mods.
