Hello

I recently purchase a 2011 Sierra 1500 SLE 5.3AFM 4x4 Z85 suspension with 3.42 gears and hd cooling package. I'm going to start looking for a camper and I'am just wondering How much I can haul and what a good recommended camper weight I should be looking at. According to the Sierra's owners manual it say 9500lbs. Of coarse I know I shouldn't max my truck out but what is a good weight for my truck. I'm kind of looking at campers 25 to 30 ft long.

thanks

There's lots of campers you can haul. IMO, Keep the dry weight around 5500 lbs and you won't have any issues. My favorite camper I've owned was a trail-lite 8304S. 30' and under 5000 lbs. It pulled like nothing was there. Just one example of many that are out there in that weight class.

it depends on a few things.

If you will be pulling locally (under a hundred miles or so) and flat ground, 8500 all up or so won't be an issue.

If you are going longer distances, through the mountains with four passengers, a 800 lb atv in the bed, etc etc, then you best be looking at something in the 4000 empty and 6500 all up range.

So your saying if I keep the dry weight between 4000 and 6500lbs I should not have issues.

I could be wrong, but I think he meant "All LOADED up" when he stated "all up range". Which would include all clothing, food, DRINK, hoses, electrical cords, dishes...etc.

Good luck in your search! & keep us posted on what you decide on!

We tow a 30 ft Ultra Light 5100 lbs. dryweight. Get 10-11 mpg. Tows fine.
