Catalytic Converter

Hi All,

I have a noisy Converter. The insides are slowly letting go. Not sure if it will be in the window of emission warranty or not.

The question is. Will the truck run and perform properly if I hollow out the Catalytic Converter?

thanks,

Ive heard that your truck will not run properly unless you reprogram it to delete the O2 sensor after the cat. Not sure how true that is, but its what Ive heard.

assuming your truck is post-95 ......

google "o2 sensor simulator"

you put them in the two after-cat sensor harness positions.

if your truck is pre-96, then hollow away.

then you will need the o2 simulators, or you will have a check engine light and an error code

Hey i have a 2003 with exhaust and no converters. All you got to do is go to advance, autozone and buy a pack of 22mm spark plug non fouler. Drill them out exactly a 1/2 inch. Unplug both o2 sensor connectors so you dont break any wires. Screw the drilled out o2 spacers into the pipe then screw the 02 into it. Your done. Cut them off or replace with high flo's and youll never throw the po420 code. This is my 2nd silvy with no cats.

But yes if you hollow them out or remove them without doing what i said earlier. Then you will have a check engine light on. Which for the coverter your truck will run in limp mode cause your rear o2 sensors detect to much gas in your exhaust so your computer will adjust and your light comes on and your gas millage goes to $hit. I know my hillbilly terms might not be exactly what happens but you hollow or cut them off without fooling the computer your truck will suffer. If you need any help i can post you a few pics underneath my truck to show you my spacers. People on ebay and other people sell them close to 20 bucks sometimes more. They are 5 dollars at advance and autozone. The only difference is you have to drill them out yourself to a 1/2 exactly

Im not saying dont try it, because for $5 you cant afford not to try it. But, if they dont work, you can have the back O2 sensors rogramed out and it will fix your issue.

Try the simulator spacer things, but be aware, they dont work for everyone for some reason.
