Adding Backup Sensors

Greetings,

I just purchased a new 2011 Silverado. It is the LT model. I had an after-market Nav unit installed with a backup camera. The dealership and GM could not make the factory Nav unit install and navigate properly so they offered an after-market solution and I took it. The backup camera is very nice.

My wife's vehicle has the backup sensors that beep as you get closer to an object. I believe my truck could have been outfitted with this.

Can these sensors be added to my truck?

Thanks,

J

You cant add the factory option. If you want the sensors you will have to go after market.

I dont know why GM wont let you add factory options to trucks..... If they offered it as a kit and supported the programming I think they could make some decent money off of it.

Thanks for the reply. That is too bad, I could use the sensors.

I purchased the truck and had them install GM's nav unit (like in the LTZ) but even after working with GM engineers they could not make it work with the standard speaker system (Interference) so they put in an aftermarket nav unit - which I like.

They don't seem to plan ahead to allow OEM upgrades.

Dracoman, Google Rostra Precision or Rostra, They sell an aftermarket Backup sensor system that looks as close to OEM as you'll find. You've got me thinking about it now also!!!!!

I don't know the difference between a GMC and a Chevy bumber, but I was told that I could order a new rear bumber with the backup sensors in it. I was quoted a price of $315 at my dealer. It was the only thing my truck didn't have when I got it that I wanted.
