Liquid Wax Vs Spray Wax

I've been wondering lately if a lot of these newer easy to use spray waxes and easy wipe on's are as good at protecting as traditionally applied liquid waxes. For the past year I've been using fUltima Paint Guard Plus for my initial paint sealer, then ethier Turtle Wax Ice spray wax, or Meguiar's ultimate spray wax, or even Eagle 1 spray on wet wax.Today I used a new product I noticed at the store Meguiars's Ultimate Liquid Synthetic wax. It came in a box with a micro fiber and a foam applicator pad. You apply it just like a traditional liquid carnauba wax. It was just as much work as I remember waxing a full size truck this way. So my question is, do ya'll think it's really nessesary to use the liquid waxes that have to be rubbed on and rubbed off? The spray waxes are so easy and look great. I just wonder if they offer enough protection?

Like you, I have been using the Meguiar's ultimate spray wax after washing and the truck looks outstanding. I have been very impressed. I am curious as to the protection as well. I've noticed that it lasts a few weeks and when it gets wet the water beads. So, in my mind, it does for me what I want wax to do. it's so easy to put on that i don't mind doing it every 3 weeks.

I like that Turtle Wax Ice. No more worry about letting it slop over on the black trim and handles. Don't think I'll try it on the tires yet, though!

My father and I have been using the Turtle Wax Ice liquid for 2 years now on five different vehicles. I can say that it doesn't last as long as a traditional wax but I think the time it saves in application and removal is probably worth it. I know that is how my 65 year old retired father sees it, anyway.

I haven't waxed the new truck yet but I'm thinking about going back to a regular on/off apply/remove type liquid wax for my truck. The gf's Jeep GC has the gray plastic body cladding and I'll be damned if I'm using anything but Ice on that thing so this will be just for my truck. I've always been a fan of Mequires products so thats probably what I'll go with.

Are you using the Turtle Wax Ice spray or the liquid? I think they call the liquid a polish. You basically pour it on an applicator pad and put it on like a regular wax but it's supposed to be a lot easier. I have used the turtle wax ice spray. I like it a lot too.

spray wax has no where near the protection of liquid wax. it is basically only good to give you the "just waxed" look, but will be gone the next time you wash the car.

liquid, hand applied wax will last about 3 months as long as you don't use dish soap to wash the car. using a proper car shampoo is critical also.

for real paint protection, a wax applied by an orbital buffer is the most effective. that stuff will last about a year with out needing to be reapplied, as long as you use the right soap to wash the car.

I think they have a different purpose. IMO the "wax in a can" (WIAC) has better protection properties and thus lasts longer. The spray on wax is intended (I think) to be an interim solution before your next WIAC application. What should be applied BEFORE the wax is a paint sealant, this really gives you the paint protection you need then the wax is the dressing.

autogeek.net has a great review on the diff types of wax and the pros/cons of each.

But I think we all agree, regardless of which you go with, SOME form of wax is better then none.

Turtle Wax Liquid, applied with a sponge and buffed off with a micro-fiber towel. It rained yesterday, and the water piled up so high on the trucks that I had to take a rake handle and knock some of the water off. Good stuff!!!! lol

Just bought some of that new Armor All butter smooth wax last night. If it stops raining, and I get a minute, I will be giving the new truck its first wax job this weekend.
