Adding Sub To Gmt800 Bose

Hey everyone. Recently got a single 12" enclose and a JL 12W3 for free from a friend, had it left over from his old truck. My question is, what is my best route of wiring it up? Is it cheaper/easier to change out the head unit, or is wiring it up into the OEM Bose just as good? I read about how the Bose system decreases bass as volumn is turned up, is this true? Thanks for suggestions, much appreciated.

i connected my amp to the bose sub outputs inside the center console. there are two channels going to the console sub (4 separate wires; i read somewhere its a dual voice coil??), running separate from all the other speakers wires. i can't remember the colors, but they are attached to the sidewall of the console beneath the cupholder going towards the front of the truck from beneath the storage bin (where the bose amp is).

the stereo shop that installed my line out converter hooked up to the rear L-R speakers; it sounded terrible as i could never get my adjustments right. the bass on those channels does go down as the volume goes up, but i did not have that problem using the actual sub-channels. it was a night-and-day difference; you shouldn't be disappointed.

I ran all of my wires from the outside of the cab up though the floor via the transmission shift cable gromet, and then ran them down the door channel underneath the plastic trim.

Now, as far as the amp hookup, I wouldnt hook it to the Bose system for various reasons, one being the bass reduction with volume increase. I used a PAC line in converter specifically for factory Bose HU running aftermarket subs and amps. It was a plug and play and plugged directly in between the factory HU and the factory wirin harness. It had 2 channels, but I only ran one since I didnt want to amplify the door chimes that come through the front left speakers. It also had gain controls on the converter itself.

I think I still have it if you want it. I think they cost about $35 - $40 new, but you can have this one for $20 to your door.

EDIT:

Found a picture of the converter
