Electric Exhaust Cutout

I recieved my qtp electric cutout kit from summit yesterday, they messed up and sent 2 motors and one cutout pipe so I got a 163.00$ freebie thanks summit. Anyways I went down to my local muffler shop and had it welded in. Cost me 2 cases of beer I work at Budweiser so it cost me 10 bucks to have it installed. I went home and wired it up with a hot wire from the fuse box and ran the wire under the cab through the same hole the parking brake cable goes through the cab under the drivers floor board. started it up and opened it up and it is sick! most badass mod yet, it is awesome sitting at a red light and have the factory quiet exhaust(which i kept to move through the woods during hunting season quietly) and open it up and have people look over at you with a wth look on their face. My girlfriend calls it nasty mode. someone else has to try this.

meh, never had good luck with those cut outs, over time they loosen up rattle make noise and never seal up or just crap out all in general... every customer that ive ever installed one for has since come back and had it pulled off and thrown in the trash...

With a lifetime warranty and an extra cutout I think im good.

There is nothing that sounds worse is a stock V8 with a open exhaust, they are for heavy modded V8's for the strip. There is a major power loss in a stock V8 with open exhaust and a chance of burning the valves.

Not to mention that in most states, illegal!

Believe it or not it has been proven time and time again that the more freeflowing the exhaust is the better performance is. And since its installed back in front of the stock muffler there is plenty of backpressure going through 2 cats and a resonator not to worry about burning a valve which only will happen when running no manifolds or headers at all and the heat stays in the heads which causes the burnt valves. Also it sounds really good ive already got several people that want to install it on their truck.

Oh yeah im already seeing better mileage and performance 19mpgs in a crew cab z71 4x4 5.3l is pretty good i think. going to Lowes to get all the materials needed for a homemade cai soon ill post results so you can do your best to bash that too.

That is totally wrong, in a heavy modded motor then yes. If you believe it sounds good then go for it. Also nobody is bashing it just telling the other side so if you cant handle that then oh well. As for the mileage, now thats funny.

I'm afraid that "the look" that you are getting is anything but envy 99.9% of the time.

There have been several people remove their stock mufflers permanently and left the rest of the stock exhaust in place that claim it sounds very good. I have never heard it, so I cannot comment. But as a general rule, the more freeflowing the exhaust you have the more top end horsepower is gained and bottom end is lost.

To the OP: Run a test for us by pulling a trailer with the cut out closed up a hill and over a set course. Then do the same thing with the cut out open and compare the results. And my experience with CAI has been that it only makes the intake have a throaty sound, not gain any power. That being said, I do like not having to replace a filter.

Ive noticed this on my truck, and all I did was replace the muffler with a 3" magnaflow and 3" tailpipe. It will still run, but it takes a few more RPM.
