Question About Trailer Hitchs And Rust

Ok this may seem a bit stupid.

I have my new truck (never had a brand new one before so never really cared) but i have notice the inside of the hitch is already a bit scratched and i noticed the beginnings of surface rust. I was wondering if anyone have any tips or what not in order to reduce the the ability for rust build up in there. only way i can think of is to sand and repaint after using. Is there a better option?

No, I think thats about the only way. My dad's hitch on his 08 looks terrible, the plan is to take if off sometime and sandblast and powder coat it.

You could probably give it a good coating of some type of lube wd, penetrating oil, or whatever you have

Krylon semi-flat black is your friend. Just spray a bit to touch up the insides between uses and don't worry about sanding. Works like a champ.
