Nav Question

Looking at new trucks one has the nav in it one does not. The truck with the nav is cheaper for some reason, but someone said somewhere that you must use Onstar for it to work? Is this correct? Also they said you must have phone service with Onstar/Verison is this correct?

Thanks for the help.:)

you don't need onstar for the nav to work.

OnStar adds some features to the Nav, like the ability to look up and route on Google Maps or MapsQuest and then send that info directly to the trucks GPS system (in lue of having to type it in directly at the unit)

But the Nav unit is a stand alone, works with or without OnStar..

The phone function is fully seperate from the factory Nav unit. The phone function as well as Bluetooth is provided by the OnStar MODULE. The phone itself is a cell phone junction provided by Verizon via OnStar. It is not satilite provided.

The Nav unit is standalone from ONstar but ONStar can feed mapping directions (route quidance) to the Nav unit and voice function via the truck speaker system.

With my Nav, I only use the Nav provided route guidance and do not use OnStar.
