Towing Suspension For A 98 Z71

Hi,

I'm a college student and this 5.7 L, 1500 z71 was the best truck I could get my hands on at the price. Very well taken care of.... Otherwise I would have gone for a 2500. I need it to tow often 1 but occasionally 2 horses around. My problem is that the truck rides kinda low and when I hitch the trailer (just a light 2 horse) the rear sags even lower which makes it impractical. So I need some help picking the right kind of lift or new suspension I should invest in. I'm looking for affordable but reliable. block lifts? Is there a factory gm work suspension I could get? I know air is probably best but I don't want to go cheap with those.

I've asked this before but then I went out of town for a few months before I could get active so now I am back at square 1...

Thanks again guys

An add a leaf upgrade is the cheapest and easiest way to add more ride height and load capacity. my stock 07 Z71 was the same way and I put on an add a leaf and it helped a lot. You may or may not need new shocks with that, but I got them anyways cause they were not that much more. lift blocks will warp your springs if you have a lot of weight on them all the time.

What weight are you pulling? and what brand did you pick? Do you know of any cons to leaf upgrades? sorry if the questions are redundant...I'm just new to modding vehicles. I assume another spring would help stiffen my ride along with the added height?

Also what brand did you select?

Thanks Ranger

you already asked me what brand twice...it's pro comp, the ride was not that bad. I pull a variable amount of weight for construction work, anywhere from 100 to 2,000 pounds and I tow variable weight trailers too. I got everything from 4 wheel parts so I would ask them about a setup for your truck. I don't remember what it cost either but it was around 200 or so.

Do some shopping around... with steel prices the way they are, air springs are pretty darned competitive! They have the advantage of being fully adjustable, so you don't have a harsh ride when you're not towing, but full load support when you are. If you need help with application info, give us a call or shoot me a PM.
