01 Silverado Temp Control Problem

I have a 01 Silverado with a single temp control. When I have the temp in the full hot for a while, then turn it to full cold and it still blows hot air. If I have the temp set in full cold and turn off the blower for awhile, then turn the blower on it blows cold air. Then I have temp control as long as I don't turn it to full hot again. Anyone have an idea what the cause might be?
