Anyone Have Problems Breaking The Torque On Hub Nuts?

I have a 2001 GMC Z71 that I am trying to replace the hub/bearing assemblies on and I am unable to break the torque on the hub nuts to remove them. I have tried using a 10 foot cheater bar and snapped a solid steel 4 inch extenstion at the socket. They have never been removed before and I know they only require about 155 ftlbs of torque when they are installed. Any help greatly appreciated. :dunno:

When I pulled mine I used an impact gun/socket. Otherwise I would have spent all day just on that. It still take a bit of effort but you just pull a trigger & hang on.

Spray them down with PB Blast for a day or two to help loosen up any crud on them. It's really good stuff. PB Blast with an impact gun first and maybe even a little heat from a propane torch if all else fails. Becareful using PB Blast around a torch.

Well being as the breaker bar put 10 times the torque of an impact gun on the bolt that won't Work but if you use a snap on or Matco extension and the barker bar either bolt will break or the bolt will losen. And the pbblast will help alot.

Difference between an impact tool and a breaker (or flex-headed nut spinner for those old enough to remember) bar is that an impact tool uses "impact" to loosen a fastener, where as the bar just uses an increasing torque method to break the fastener loose. Chances are the fasteners have red "loc-tite" on them, and red requires heat to release the thread locking agent from the threads. Using a propane tank should have enough heat to do the job. If you use heat, the bar with extension and proper socket will suffice.

Yes, the breaker bar applied torque, but no impact, use the impact gun...and PB Blaster. No locktite is used on the axle nuts , at least from the factory. :D
