05 2500 8.1

Did all 2500 HD's with the 8.1 recieve the Allison? Looking at a truck and the dealer isnt sure. Anyone know the tell tale signs of an Allison?

 

Dont really want to pry this guy in case it does have it only to watch the price go up. Would think the vin would tell?

It should have the Ally. Look underneath and if there is a GIANT tranny with a spin-on external filter it is an Allison.

Yes, the Allison is huge and has a spin-on filter visible underneath. With the 8.1 you either had the manual or Allison 1000 5-speed auto.

You guys are correct. Ran the vin and found the trans code to be M/74 with transmission origin from Allison. Called the dealer and it does have a spin on filter and says its a huge transmission.

 

Was expecting a call back with some story that the truck is either sold or miss priced but he honored it and took my deposit.

 

05 2500 hd in Silver Birch 8.1. Long box standard cab 4x4 LS package with new tires. Auxillary trans cooler. 82,000 miles.

 

Not an easy rig to find and a blessing to have one with the allison. Must have looked at 300 trucks on the net before finding this one.

 

Cant wait to see it.
