Compass/temp Mirror In 2011 Silverado

Read all the posts on this topic and the most detailed one said to wire it to the #50 fuse. On my truck that says its for rear defogger though. Where can I wire the mirror for power? Is there any easier wire to tap than going into the fuse block? I got the top part off with all the fuses but it still didn't look easy to find the right wire in there! Thanks

If your original mirror has OnStar/Phone buttons on the bottom of it, you've already got 12v up there. Just swap out the mirrors and you should have it after you swing the compass.

Pull the fuse box under the hood and looking, from the driver side, at the blocks with the box removed the block on the bottom right, the gray block, pull it and find slot G4 there should be a pink wire running from it. That goes to fuse #50. Tap that wire and you should have power when the key is on. Just did this mod and it worked for me.

I have an LS. I've messed with every setting in the DIC and have not be able to get a compass/temp to come up. I have the basic 4 gauge cluster. I got everything wired up. The temperature is about 6 or 7 degrees lower than what my phone app is telling me. I bought the gentex 511.

well after driving the temp was about 20 degrees lower than it should. I'm hoping its a bad sensor or my wiring. Gonna switch the wires and if that doesn't work get a new sensor.

Drove this morning and the outside Temp was about 60 degrees. Mirror showed it was 40 and the dic flashed a possible ice warning! I must have damaged the sensor. Odd that the dic knows when it's close to 32 degrees but can't show the temp all the time.

final update for future reference! for those with an LS, the temp sensor is there to give a possible ice warning and to disable the A/C when the temp drops to a certain point. It won't give an accurate reading when hooked to a mirror and splicing into makes it think that its cold and it disables the AC. if you do this mod, buy a separate sensor.

I borrowed 12V from the overhead console in my 2011 silverado its already up there, if you lower the overhead console and look at the big connector the orange wire is 12V just run to the back of the mirror and your good to go.
