DESCRIPTION OF KEY CHANGES TO THE ONSTAR TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following set out some of the key changes to the OnStar Terms and Conditions. The headings and section numbers refer to the corresponding headings and sections in the amended Terms and Conditions. All capitalized terms have the same meanings as defined in the amended Terms and Conditions.

OnStar Data Connection — Initial Terms

We have added to the Terms and Conditions the provision that if you or we cancel your OnStar Services, we will maintain the two-way connection with your Vehicle and may continue to collect data from your Vehicle, unless you take certain steps to deactivate the Data Connection or fully disable the Equipment.

If you do not want OnStar to maintain a Data Connection to your Vehicle, you can push your blue button or call us at 1.888.4.ONSTAR at any time and request that the Data Connection be deactivated. It may take up to sixty (60) days for OnStar to cancel your account and deactivate the Data Connection to your Vehicle. During this sixty (60) day period, Service may still be available, and data may be collected from your Vehicle.

Upon deactivation, OnStar will no longer be capable of contacting, or obtaining data from, your Vehicle although you will be able to contact OnStar by pressing the blue OnStar button twice. To disable the Vehicle's ability to contact OnStar through the blue OnStar button, you must visit an authorized dealer and ask them to remove the Equipment from your Vehicle.

How Your OnStar Equipment Works, Geographic Limits, and Other Restrictions — Section 10

We have added to Section 10 the provision that OnStar is not responsible for your failure to comply with applicable laws while you are driving or using the Equipment or Services.

OnStar Advisors Connect You to Other Service Providers — Section 12

We have added to Section 12 the provision that OnStar is not responsible for charges, fees, or taxes arising from services provided by Service Providers, including law enforcement, fire department, or ambulance services, contacted by OnStar.

What If Your Vehicle Is Stolen? — Section 17

As with the previous Terms and Conditions, you can elect to deactivate the ability of OnStar to slow down your Vehicle. However, pursuant to the amended Terms and Conditions, if you deactivate this capability, you will not be able to receive any Services at all.

Your Privacy — Section 32

The amended Terms and Conditions reflect changes that we have contemporaneously made to our Privacy Statement. Although the Terms and Conditions describe and summarize some of the key provisions in our Privacy Statement, we encourage you to review the Privacy Statement to learn the full details of our privacy practices (a copy of the Privacy Statement is attached as Schedule A to the amended Terms and Conditions and can also be found here).

We have added to the amended Terms and Conditions more detailed information about the information we collect about you and about your Vehicle, including how we collect your information, what we do with it and how we share it. For example, unless the Data Connection in your Vehicle is deactivated, information about your Vehicle may continue to be collected even if you do not have Service. In addition to other purposes set out in the prior version of the Privacy Statement, we may use the information we collect about you and your Vehicle to improve the quality of our Service and offerings and may share the information we collect with law enforcement or other public safety officials, credit card processors, and/or third parties we contract with who conduct joint marketing initiatives with OnStar. The Privacy Statement provides certain options relating to choices you have concerning how your information is used and how you may manage your preferences. Finally, we have added additional information about how OnStar safeguards your personal information.

The Law That Governs Our Relationship — Section 39

We have changed Section 39 of the Terms and Conditions to specify that the laws that govern the amended Terms and Conditions will be the laws of the state of your OnStar billing address.

I got that email the other day as well. Seems they can and do monitor your vehicle all the time. My question is, can they, and do they, monitor the ECM data to see if it has been tuned? If they do, that is reason enough to have them cancel the data collection, or to at the least pull the antenna off the vcim. I want the bluetooth, so, pulling the vcim is not going to happen, and I prefer the factory bluetooth over the one thay replaces the vcim.

I highly suggest to all to read the book TOP SECREET AMERICA or buy or watch the PBS Frontline TV program with same name: Top Secret America.

The gov-mint is monitoring 1.7 billion emails and phone calls every day. Yes, yes, yes, it is for your protection. Of course it is. But do read the book or watch the Frontline episode.

But back to OnStar. It is a compromise.

Just wait till things are sorted out for OBD-III for cars and trucks. Not yet here. But coming soon.

Despite the loss of privacy that comes with being an OnStar user, the system helps me on a weekly basis get from point A to point B, find a restaurant, etc. And, the peace of mind that comes with OnStar sending help should I or my family get in an accident is worth the loss of privacy, in my mind.

It would be nice to see an email from OnStar that says they changed their mind...

I questioned how they can change the T&Cs when I don't have a contract with them (trial period expired).

I think was one of the issues that came up. There was a senator or governor in NY state that was trying to get some investigation going about this. OnStar changed their mind in something like a week. I think most people just got the notice from OnStar and then OnStar reversed its plans.

    • https://precisionlubrication.com/articles/oil-filter-efficiency/     For them it is a problem of $$$$ and compliance. To cover both they have to lie from the heart.    Government wants low waste oil numbers so the bar needs to be very low on contamination to met that requirement.  Consumer wants cheap maintenance (perceived cost). Again requiring a low bar.  OEM wants high margins at a cost effective warranty rate and lots of repeat customers. More low bar.  Filter manufacture wants the same thing the OEM wants. See the pattern?   Consumers are fickle and also want perfection requiring a HIGH bar. Inconsistent with all of the above. Consumers can be, when the put their minds to it, inquisitive, love winning arguments which requires some useful information to be available to support them. And this is where it gets sticky and the lies begin.    Information needs a solid well grounded point of reference if we are to compare in a useful way. There is a standard for this.  ISO 4548-12. This standard sets the particle size at a specific Beta ratio and darn few are faithful to its intent.    If they don't state the test method they change the particle size or the Beta ratio to hit a perceived favorable standard. They obscure the information in a way as to prevent direct comparisons leaving the consumer with one method. UOA's with an ISO 4406 test result. Pricey and not allot of labs willing to do the work. Lobby work happens everywhere, not just at the seat of government.
    • IF,IF,IF. If they cared about quality instead of profit and this applies to any company, what a concept.
    • Good Morning Gents..hope everyone is enjoying a beautiful saturday morning. I have a 2001 GMC Sierra that I bought used in 2018. I am the 2nd owner and its a beautiful truck. Ive put about 60,000 miles on it and recently the front end has felt funny. Kind of loose when hitting bumps adn sometimes I actually feel a "bang" in the steering wheel. I took it to a local guy who said that everything was tight and he tightened the steering box. It didnt feel much better, so I had him replace the front shocks, which had noto been done since I bought it. It had the check enging light on so I took it into a local garage to fix that and check out the suspension. Everything is original and the rubber bushings that I can see look bad. They said everything was tight and there wasnt any play in the front end. Im concerned about the banging feeling in the wheel. Ive been driving this truck for 8 years, so I know how it usually feels and this is something new. Its a second vehicle, so I dont drive it all the time, but Im trying to use it more often. I live out in the country and some of the  roads are kind of rough and I alive on gravel roads. Anyone deal with anything like this before?
    • Yes of course. There’s no experience in the Trump organization in hiring contractors. it’s not like they’re experienced in that field.😆
    • Well, 2 no-bid contracts to donors didn't seem to result in a good job...
