Hey guys, i'm not going to be getting the truck back till after the canada thanksgiving weekend. They are not putting in a new short block like i hoped. They said they are sending components out to be machined.

If a bearing has got hot and burnt up, wouldn't you think that the strength of the con rod has been comprimised due to the heat??

The service tech can't tell me much other then it will be fixed right at this moment.

do u guys think it is to long of time for them to fix this type of repair or should i be phoned Gm customer care??

I would document any concerns you have with your dealer. That way if you have issues with a failure down the road you can say I raised this concern in the beginning. If you are getting a short block are you not getting new connecting rods with it? Usually a short block is block, crank, pistons, rods,

It says he's not getting a short block. And yeah that's a long time for repair but they are giving you a free rental vehicle equivelant to your truck? If not then I'd complain!

i'm in an acadia right now, they didn't have a "GM" pick-up at the rental place, only a dodge. But they have to put you in a GM vehicle.

It's no truck, but i am in the market for a newer vehicle for the wife. I did phone and complain about the time frame it's going to take them for the repairs to GM customer support and the lady said they will have to reimburse me someway for not having the truck that long. It's goose season and i dont think an acadia will get to some of the spots i get too haha and the grain buggy would look goofy behind it aswell.

Great dealership...

The dealership has been surprisingly decent to deal with, it's just enterprise rent a car doesn't have a GM pick-up truck for rentals, and GM's policy is you have to be in a GM vehicle unless the rental place has nothing else.

Sorry I misread. I would want a new short block. I would try to push for one. It couldn't hurt to document that have concerns about their repair decision. Also you could ask for an extended warranty period.

I'll start off for, I don't like AFM.... But read on guys...

However, this isn't an AFM problem.

I hope they sent your crank and rods to be machined...... The rod will be fine just need to be re-sized. The crank will need to be ground on those rod journals. And of course the appropriate bearings installed according to the machine work.

There seem to be a quite a few people like me that DON'T like AFM and quite a few that DO like AFM.

To each his own..... I personally, don't like it and don't like the idea of anyone telling me 2 quarts is an acceptable amount of oil consumption. 2 quarts on an oil change if you use Castrol right now is about 11 bucks for non-synthetic. Seems a bit much to ask for on an oil change.. If I don't tow with it and it burns a quart of oil on a change, write it down. I will have the engine out and in my machine shop.

But back to the problem, Its not AFM.... Wrong end of the engine.

It is incredible how expensive has regular Castrol oil become. I remember buying entire cases of it in mid 90s at 99 cents/quart on sale. Now it retails for over $ 5/quart and it never is cheaper on sale than about $3.50/quart.

Hahahaha, yah, I know what you mean...... I buy it by the pallet, for resale........ Kinda makes me sick seeing how much it is, even at my cost.... But then again... I wanna vomit if I fill my truck up from empty once....

But Walmart had my oil I use for 25 bucks a gallon bottle when they made the change from Syntec to Edge...... I think I have enough to last for a decade (I hit every Walmart I drove by for months, clean sweep of 10w30, I'd leave with every gallon bottle, idk why they never lowered the quarts)....... Might say I stock piled..... 6.25 a quart is pretty dang good.... And was considerably cheaper than my cost buying it though my warehouse. My truck is already addicted to Syntec.... 195k on the ticker..... I just fixed a leak that had be making me mad, I would have a slight film on the pan every oil change on one side...... Oil pan gasket started seeping a little on the front. New gasket and all dry again, on this oil change, so far....

You should get a new engine.I have a 2011 1500 LTZ with a 6.2 and 12000 on the speedo. It started with the cold engine knock.I took it to the dealer and to my amazement they went to put a new cam in lifters in.When they pulled the head they found out that number 8 cylinder was scored. Then really to my amazement they are ordering a new crate engine to be put in.I have heard horror stories about how GM doesnt want to fix things right or by saying its a normal noise.I guess I just lucked out at my dealership. So I am waiting to get my baby back to see how she runs
