Engine Noise!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

Just dropped off my truck for an engine knock. (95,xxxkm) it's a warranty claim,

I'll let you guys know what they find. i brought it in yesterday and the techs are leaning towards a bottom end noise, since it kinda goes away while underload.

i haven't had a lick of trouble with this truck, and it may be getting a heart transplant.

Cheers

Score if you get a new engine, I hope my transmission and engine go right before warrenty.

+1 - better than after the warrenty... which seems to be my luck with Appliances... knock on wood not so much with cars and trucks.

Well, I just got off the phone with the service department and they have notified me that I have a couple rod bearings that are worn. I will know tomorrow how they plan on correcting this action. It's strange that is rod bearings at less then 100,000km.

:dunno:

what size engine?

5.3L with AFM !!

I would never have guessed! :)

Now you're going to tell me that AFM GM engines have bottom end issues ALONG with burning oil?? Do you do a daily search for AFM on this forum or......Ya know what, nevermind.

How can you really pinpoint the problem to rod bearings unless you take the engine apart? They are only guessing at this point.

And as for searching for AFM engine problems - I do not and I could not care less because I neither own one nor do I have any intention of ever buying one.

I was asking you, the GM AFM engine expert, that question. You are ALWAYS commenting in threads that have ANYTHING to do with AFM engines so stop acting like you don't pay attention or care. Hell, threads have been closed because of your Anti-AFM banter. You care, all to much you care.

That sentence right there should be a good reason for you NOT to bash these engines and tell people about all the problems you "heard about". I have six Silverado's in my family, all with AFM engines. Not one of them has had any issues.

How can you ALWAYS be bashing AFM and responding to posts telling people about all kind of problems when you don't own one??? Seems like you care a great deal, what's the story?

Hey guys, i'm not going to be getting the truck back till after the canada thanksgiving weekend. They are not putting in a new short block like i hoped. They said they are sending components out to be machined.

If a bearing has got hot and burnt up, wouldn't you think that the strength of the con rod has been comprimised due to the heat??

The service tech can't tell me much other then it will be fixed right at this moment.

do u guys think it is to long of time for them to fix this type of repair or should i be phoned Gm customer care??
