A good deal?

guys I found a car that I could almost drool on.

Passing one of the "espanol" lots, more tuned for spanish speaking customers than quality cars, saw an immacualate 1996 Z28, a "burnt red" metallic. looked much better than I can describe.

Auto, t-tops, the stock wheels were chromed(looked good though), Leather, Bose sound with stock sub. simply loaded.

Sounded great, can't be stock exhaust rumbled like an old muscle car(sounded kinda like mervz Vette, in fact) it was fully detailed, onlu four small dents in a row on the passenger side, not nearly enough to take away from the overall appearence of the car. the rear bumber needs a wax, but isn't oxidized.

their price? 5,995 for CASH(finance lot). book value? 9,945. take away minor defect, and your still looking at a smooth 9,000 book. haven't driven it(it was very blocked in, nicest thing at the lot), but I'm thinking hard. VERY hard.

I'm confident I could get aaround 5,500-6,00 out of my trcuk, and I've been wanting car that could turn decent numbers in the 1/4. I've definatley found it, and I'd be staying Chevy.

I'd like your guys opinions!!!

First thing you stated was it's an automatic. What the heck fun is that!!!

Seriously, if you're interested in it, look to see if the intake plenum leaks oil anywhere (most likely towards the back), find out the state of the Opti-Spark (Opti-Crap as it is nicknamed), and check the water pump above for leaks/leaking as this is what causes Opti problems.

On the B-Pillar look if there is any distortion/twisting where it curves from the side to the top. If there is any distortion/twisting that tells you the car has been launched hard either on the street or most likely the strip on some form of "stickies".

With an auto, you are most like burdened with a 2.73:1 rear gear and optimistically a 3.23:1 as an option.

That's all I can think of right off the top of my head. One thing that's nice about the 96+ LT1's is that they are dual cat systems (vs. single from 93-95) and of course OBDII (which I prefer for ease of modability and not worrying about breaking emissions laws).

it sold while I was at school today, oh well, back to needing 1200 to get my truck "perfect" (A/C ststem, fuel pump, new tint). Then everything will be done.

??? Granted Id rather have a 6 speed, but obviously youve never driven a car with a good stall... My buddies '02 Z28 with lid, ported mass-air and maf-tuner, exhaust unbolted,and a 3600 stall pulls consistent high 12s @ 3600ft altitude... Not shabby at all...

As far as that car goes... Id be skeptical... Sounds a little on the cheap side... Id find an early LS1 if I were you...
