Hi folks, I had a bad grinding noise in my transfer case . I brought it in and they said the TC is shot. The local gm dealer found one and I had it installed a long with a front u-joint and yoke.. The original unit was np261hd the reman unit only has a gm part number on it 24228435 and when I searched the number it comes up with nv261. I would think there still the same though... new venture or new prosess...Now I have a hum-vibration right at 60 then it kinda goes away then at 70-75 it get real bad. I can feel the hum/vibration through the floor board steering wheel seat, it like sitting in one of them vibarating chairs at the mall ... Im thinking the driveshaft might be un-balanced....

I have a similar problem. It could be a few things I now know of. A u-joint could be bad somewhere along the line. I have read that if the u-joint retainer straps are too tight they could cause a cap to bind. Another thing could be if the rear driveshaft slip yoke where it goes into the TC was worn it could have damaged the tailhousing bushing (mine did). It could also be like you said and the shafts may need to be balanced by a shop. I believe the shafts were originally balanced in the vehical at time of assembly.

I removed my re-maned TC with only 200 miles on it since install and found the bushing to be ruined with mucho aluminum fragments in the case. I am going to have a new bushing and rear seal installed as well as flush the case with brake cleaner. I had my driveshaft balanced and a new slip yoke installed. I hope I wont have another issue with it.
