Was Looking At Different Oils And No Dexos?

I was at walmart yesterday looking at the different oils to see if they had the Dexos emblem on them and they didn't. I looked at Mobile 1, Penzzoil Platinum and neither had the Dexos symbol on them. Have they not started putting this on them even though the Dexos website says both these brands are approved? I was hoping to go with Penzzoil platinum. I know M1 is known to be good but I've used it several times on past cars and it always seems to evaporate some whether the Mobile products were synthetic or not, as soon as I changed brands the dipstick wouldn't go down in 6000 miles when the Mobile 1 would. Thanks...

I take it from the lack of response that the Dexos label hasn't made it to oil containers at local stores. A friend was telling me that my local dealer only charges $30-$40 for oil changes, that's an idea and will put my concerns to rest; although I have trust issues with other folks touching my truck. What if they don't tighten the plug, or filter hmmmm what to do.....

Your local Walmart, apparently, still is into old inventory of motor oil or does not rotate stock when restocking shelves. Most areas now have the Dexos 1 logo on the bottles. To meet the Dexos 1 standard, the oil will have to be at least a semi-synthetic.

O'Riley's ran a special, a few months back, on Penz Platinum for buy 1 quart, get one quart free for up to 6 quarts. One 6 pack I bought didn't have the Dexos symbol, one did. Either way, I have a receipt for a Dexos approved oil being bought for my truck so I'm not loosing sleep over it.

What if the bulk drum of oil at the dealer DOESN'T HAVE THE DEXOS EMBLEM ON IT?! HOW WILL YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELF?

Buy the PP, put it in your truck, install a quality filter and move on.

Apparently your forum name is appropriate.

Thanks guys. It makes sense because my local walmart is a very busy store but poorly stocked across the board. Usually when I hit a walmart in a nearby town the stock is so much better. I see things not typically offered at my crappy wally world.

I've noticed that they might not have the emblem on them but have it written on the back. This just means they meet the standard and are not licensed to put the trade mark on the bottle because they didn't pay GM to be certified.
