Steering Column Bearings Or Bushing?

Recommended Posts

Are there bearings or bushings in the steering column that can wear out? My steering column seems to have some play in it rattles around while driving and occasionally makes a moaning sound when turning the wheel. The intermediate shaft has been replaced so I know that is not the problem. If I grabe the intermediate shaft where it connects to the steering column I can actually move it side to side slightly, is that normal.

Are there any parts that can be ordered? and would they be easy to replace? meaning in a couple of hours?

There is a bearing in the base of the steering column. They are known to go bad sometimes.

thanks. I got a new one and installed it but it didnt help. But it helped me narrow it down a little. the moaning sounds like it is coming from the upper column. I have looked to see if there is a replacement bearing but couldnt find anything.

And I still have a popping/clunking sound too. and since it is not the intermediate shaft, would it be any other steering components?
