Brake question

hey guys our first snow storm, I am going down a hill, light at bottom turns red, I am driving sanely and begin to apply brakes and start to slide out of control, wheel (s) is locked up and no ABS working.

I managed to not crash onto the guy in front of me and also managed to NOT pee my pants, so I SLOWLY made the trip home.

 

Just checked the brake fluid and alot is missing from the master cylinder (rear portion) so I pulled all wheels off to try and find leak etc..... no fluid at any wheel I topped off reservoir and bled ALL brakes after test drive it still does not feel right to me, but the roads are cleared up enough that I cannot check the ABS without putting on a show.

Where on Earth did the fluid go when I performed the leg press move on the pedal?

Bad seal in M/C that leaked into booster and burned in engine?

 

Please give any thoughts I have a new M/C now, but am waiting too see what you gents thing before I install it as it is cold as hell out and I will be doing any repairs in my driveway.

Sorry it is a 98 k1500 5.7 4wd auto tranny no lift all stock owned since new and 214000 miles!

Do you know what the level was prior to your "fun" on the snow?

Full, I am anal about checking stuff hence the 214k on an unopened block etc.........

Have you cleaned the frame rails real good where your brake lines run? If not, clean them up, then without moving (& running) active brakes several times. Then check all lines to see if you have a cracked line. I have an old rust bucket '76 Chevy that blew a line & that was the only way to find out the exact leak location.

Followed all lines to the individual brakes.............NADA

Also checked the bake of master cylinder, front of brake booster for possible leakage? Grasping at straws at this point...

If the M/C were full before your incident, you definitely have a leak. If it is the M/C that is leaking, the fluid should show on the outside. In order for the fluid to get sucked into the engine, your brake booster would also have to be bad and allowing brake fluid to pass the booster diaphragm. If that is the case, a new booster would be in order.

 

Check for brake fluid in the vacuum hose going to the booster.

 

Also, check the back-side of all 4 wheels for B/F.
