as nice as it is to have a digital tranny temp guage in my truck i have no idea what it should be sitting at amd whats considered hot. right now were entering our winter, temps are mid 30s to mid 40s daily. i was on the hiway just cruising along and saw her at about 124 degrees. ive seen it mid 130s in the summer time. im curious what you guys are seeing your average hiway and city temps at and at what point is it getting too hot? truck is an 09 5.3 liter with a 6 spd and tow package

Towing 6000lbs through the mountains in summer (interior BC) I topped out at 110*C (about 230F) which is around the highest (outside temps were about 30*C).. It was solid... Had it checked out when got home and the fluid looked great, not burnt. Piece of cake. (note I certainly wasn't making any land speed records lol)

thanks guys, good to know. id figure gm would have made the temp readout blink or somethign if it got too hot but i wasnt willing to test that theory, lol.

thanks for the link ryan, i really need to learn how to properly use the search function. i try but im searchtarded on these forums. good to know im still a good bit off from the max :)

Your well within operating temps. I've read anything above 260 degress is when you should start to worry but chances are you won't see temps anywhere near that. The transmission is filled with a synthetic blend which really helps keeping the temperatures down. I'd bet you'll never see anything over 210 in extreme conditions.

From the owners manual.

Perform a hot check at the first opportunity after the transmission reaches a normal operating temperature between71°C to 93°C (160°F to 200°F).

thanks for the info guys. when i do my next oil change illdo the tranny as well. the truck has a gooseneck out back, trailer brake controller and tow mirrors so im sure the guy before me towed some stuff with it, figure i may as well change out the fluid. should i use the stuff gm recommends or is there a better synthetic blend out there for me to use?

My truCk has yet to reach "normal" operating temps. In the city I have seen max 59c and on the highway it drops down to 41c at 115km/h.
