Bunky Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 I need to change the flex plate on My 2001 2500HD Is there a heavy duty plate to replace the original ? I hear of others replacing them and they cracking again ... Also does anyone know the Bolt size and thread of the bell housing bolts, I want to try and put some long studs in and slide my transmission back without removing it I use to do this years ago on a old blazer I had .....
jro909 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 i don't think the trans has bolts in the bellhouseing...i think when the dealer pulled mine they said something about the bellhouseing was riveted on? idk maybe i'm going crazy
gmtech4 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 ya your out to lunch crustyworm to the op ,DO NOT try and cut any corners and use studs ,that is a BS way of doing things , you did not mention but i think you have a dirtymax and Allison setup... just remove the tranny or have someone do it that knows what they are doing,,the torque on the flywheel bolts is significant ,a flywheel holder is required in the starter mount hole so keeping the tranny near the area is absolutely not on ,it just wont work
Bunky Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 I have a 6.0 litre in my 2500HD and I'm not sure what the difference is in this and Small block, but I guess I will check things out before attempting this
gmtech4 Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 it is a small block !! and who said the flywheel is cracked ??? i never replaced 1 at the dealer and i was the tranny guy !!
sonjaab Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Flexplate cracking at the bolts to the crank is a very common problem. Search here and be amazed !
