I've collapsed two Fram filters in the past two days. Where is the oil by pass valve located and how do I check it to make sure it's working properly. I'd hate to think I have to replace the oil pump at 40,000 miles. I changed the oil today and she ran fine, I shut her off and 45 mintues later I had low pressure and clicking lifters. HELP!

So what filters do you guys recommend? I've been using Fram for over 20 years. Should I go with GM parts? EIther way, where is the by pass valve?

My neighbor had the same problem with his 454. Problem was Fram Filters. The Fram Filters are not what they use to be. My sister-in-law's father worked for Fram. And when we were kids we would use one of Fram's garages to work on our cars. And we would get all of our filters for free. We use to go into their labs and talk with the engineers. And they would explain what type of medium they were testing and how it was working out. At that time they would test their competitions filters and Fram's filters had to be just as good if not better than the competitions. But those days are long gone. Now it is what do we have to do to produce this product for less. And the quality has gone down hill from there.

A quick check for you problem would be to install a different brand of filter. That way you will know if it is the filters. Napa Gold, Purolator PureOne, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, Purolator Classic, Wix, Baldwin Are all good filters.

Good Luck
