CB Radio

So, I have always wanted one and am now very close to picking one up. I drive a ton for work and feel like it would be nice to have in the truck and be able to communicate with other drivers about road and traffic conditions. Do any of you use one? If so, is there a brand you prefer? I kind of feel like only truckers still use these. Here is the kit that I am looking at getting. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/pickup-cb-radio-kits-135/cobra-29-ltd-and-wilson-antenna-package-489.html

I have an old Radio Shack TRC-451 in my truck. I've had this radio since I was a teenager.

I don't use it much, but it gives me something to do on long trips....listening to the truckers.

It's also nice to have when travelling with other RVers.

I had this Jeep Wrangler a few years back. I put a compact CB in, the Cobra that has all the controls in the Mic and just a tiny box that goes under the dash.

I like mounting things very clean with no exposed wires. I always hard wire the power into a spare accessory fuse. The best part was the whip. Instead of any magnet mount or other 'bolt on' I got two matching black fiberglass whips. I replaced the stock radio antenna with one whip and on the other the driver side of the hood I mounted the other whip in the factory location. Under the hood of most vehicles you'll find the same mounting tabs, holes, and such sheet metal on both sides for the antenna. It looked really slick with the two matching whips, and I really like symmetry. I'm planning on doing this on my Silverado when I figure out what radio I want and where it will go. I already know I can install the whip on the driver's side and make it look stock. It requires machining some special hardware to get the stock radio wire to screw into the thread size of the CB whip.

I have no need for the big suckers, a small uniden pro 510XL is what I use and works just fine.

have the same one, works great for me and its easy to use and compact.

the mic that comes with it blows though

well I wound up ordering the kit that I linked to and it arrived today. Im going to try and get it installed in the next day or two and get some pictures up. trying to decide if I want to mount the antenna on the toolbox or on the roof.

If its the magnetic mount, put it right on the center of the roof

yes it is a bigass magnet. Im intrigued by the idea of replacing the factory radio antenna since I hardly use fm radio anyway.

i personally dont like magnets... i have used one and they get knocked out of place too much and im always afraid its gonna fall off. plus i think it looks better on the toolbox.

I used to have a CB...the CB wasn't actually functional, I just used the PA feature to yell at people

Been meaning to hook up a PA, is it hard to do?
