Low oil pressure..

Today i was driving in town and noticed the oil pressure was under 20 at idle in traffic, Id say 10 12. Kinda worries me

the truck has 106,000 on it and has mobil 1 5w30 and it isnt low, I know the previous owner towed with the truck but it was an older guy and when i got the truck it looked new in,out,and under..

Just curious what could be going on? even getting into it at or above 3000 rpm it didnt exceed 40.

Could be an oil pressure sending unit. I have had those go out on a couple of cars. Some stop reading, some read low. Only way to know for sure is to put a mechanical gauge on it. I had one that would read just get low enough when the car was warmed to trip the light on and off while idling.

Mine does it too some mornings when the temps are below freezing and im letting it warm up, the low oil pressure display chimes. Seems like in colder weather the pressure should be higher though. my gauge fluctuates sometimes and ive been told the gauge itself could be faulty. What i need to do and you might want to do is hook up a mechanical oil gauge to verify the condition.

I have the same situation on my 07 Denali. Mine has 130k miles on it though. I believe I have read on this site about sending units getting plugged and causing the low pressure readings. Eventualy causing the engine to go into limp mode. I would like to know if there is a way to confirm if the sending unit is plugged / working properly... Anybody have any ideas?

Is there a way to clean the oil sending unit or just replace it??

Stop doing it as of sun...Maybe something was stuck?/clogged?

Fram, double/tough gaurd

General consensus is Fram is no good, but I have heard the double guard is a decent filter. I would start with replacing the filter and inspecting it when you remove it. It is possible that the filter is collapsed or restricted.

Mine has been doing it the past few mornings when its below 32. I use mobil 1 filters 95 percent of the time.
