I have a 2011 silverado and want to do a navigation upgrade. I was at a gm dealer and they said it cant be done because it is the Ls version and that it is not the amplified system. has anyone done this upgrade? with a gm nav radio.i also inquired at a couple of car audio stores and they told me that i could go aftermarket and retain onstar but i would lose the factory bluetooth controls on the steering wheel. is this true?. has anyone upgraded there radio to a nav unit and kept all functions working. I would like to put a gm unit in if possible, does anyone have the part numbers/ model #s etc of what i would need to do this.

thanks in advance.

Hey there, I'm a newbie to the Silverado's but I've been reading quite a bit on here about upgrading to a Navi unit in trucks w/o the Bose system. I believe what they told you is correct in that you cannot add a factory navi unit to any of the trucks that do not have the Bose system. I think this probably has to do with the fact that the navigation units do not have an internal amplifier, therefore you would have to have the Bose system which does have an external amp that powers the speakers.

I have decided to go with the Advent navigation system b/c of its simplicity and appearance of the factory units. I recently installed a Pioneer navi deck into my 2009 HHR SS, and what a freakin' headache. $250 dollars in adaptors to retain On-Star, Bluetooth, and steering wheel controls. After I got it all working, I vowed to never do that again (and I've been installing stereos for 15+ years now)....until I researched and read about the Advent OGM-1. Check it out.

There are some after market nav units out there that are plug and play .I would try one of thoise first before over spending on a system that is not very good.

I have the factory system in my 2011. It is horrible. It only takes me to 50%of the places I use it for. You can buy a Garmin for less then $100 that will work better then the $2200 factory system.

Search on here for info on the unit made my Advent. Better than OEM and plug & play

Hit adcmobile.com for all the info you could ever want on the Advent unit, including videos and photos, splash screens, etc. You can email me from the "Contact Us" link on the website, or PM me here for more info if you like.

What?! You mean you have a nav screen built it but it will not work right without on*? Thats crazy, what a rip off!

Or are you talking about that voice-gudiance you get over the radio speakers when you call On* for directions? I remember trying that free when I had the free 3 months when the truck was new - ya ho :/...

I have never heard so much dribble against the factory nav. The nav unit does not need Onstar Turn by Turn to work. It has voice directions for any input destination. I also looked at after market nav units for my 2011 HD LTZ. Although there are certainly a number of very capable aftermarket units, they are by no means perfect. I ended up with installing a GM USB DVD unit into my truck. It was actually cheaper than a number of the aftermarket units. What sold me was my preference for the factory Nav screen presentation and the instant on function. The aftermarket nav screen presentation tends to have a Garmin 3D look to it. I just like the factory better. The aftermarket units almost all take time to boot up. With my factory unit, I added a Lockpick to play DVD and Rear Camera while moving.

In essense, the decision is not binary. One must take a look at display, bootup, button function at the steering wheel, and look at the entire picture. To simply say the factory unit is junk is an ignorant position to take.

i just put together a complete factory navigation setup (unit, antenna, harness, amp, disc, backup camera) everything needed. for just shy of $900 and its all plug and play. completely factory.
