Yea, it was much needed.

Thanks alot. I have been looking, but couldnt come up with anything. Hell, if nothing else I'll call the stealership and see if I can get them to tell me the fix.

Did you ever find anything about that TSB and get your lights straightened out?

No I havent made it to the dealership yet. I've been playing catch-up all last week at work. I planned on taking it in this week.

I did finally take it to the dealership. They said its a failing power supply in the cluster. So for them to fix it, its gonna be $540.

Ouch! I would call GM on it. I saw on here somewhere that cluster problems are common and I think some of them are covered.

Yea, they pulled the VIN. They told me that GM warrents up to 80,000 miles and after that your on your own.

That's ridiculous when they hide behind mileage. There are aftermarket companies that fix clusters. I would check into that. I had my digital cluster fixed on my S-10 Blazer years ago. It was a lot cheaper, but that was like 7 years ago.

look on eBay, there is several vendors with auctions for "instrument cluster repair". You "buy" the auction, they charge you the repair fee and core charge, send you a cluster. Then you swap it and return the old cluster and get the core charge back (they fix the cluster then repeat the process).

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was on leave in Oklahoma City.

Im still having the dimming issue. I've been looking for the service bulletin, but cant seem to find it.

I did get the LED's hooked up in the door speakers. I just wired them to a switch I added.

Well at least you are making progress. Glad you got some time off.

I found this info: JANUARY 01 2004

  • NHTSA Reference #10007857

  • TSB Reference #00846A

Description: HEADLAMP OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS FLICKERING OR DIMMING.

I haven't been able to get a version to tell what the fix is yet though.

DId you ask them about the above mentioned TSB?

Thanks guys, I'll definitely check them out.

I did ask about the TSB, Thats when she told me the power supply in the cluster was going bad. She then looked up my VIN and told me.

Ok... just curious. If you plan on keeping it a long time, I'd pay them to fix the cluster. Then if that didn't fix it, I'd have them do the TSB and I'd get my money back for the cluster work.

Or check with another dealer 1st.

Yea, but thats alot of money to hand out when. Especially when I can get it done way cheaper somewhere else. I found a place in Dallas, Tx that will do a complete rebuild for around $100.
