Simple upgrade to non Bose really simple?

Well after reading for hours i seem to be more confused than when I started. I have a 08' silverado LT with oem non Bose sound. All I want is better sound quality and increased volume ability. I don't need a ton of bass. I figured on adding upgraded components in doors and better tweeters, running out of an amp. My question is, what exactly is the right way to do this? I basically only use my iPod for music and occasionally xm, I have no real need for a better hu. Can anyone let me know what harnesses I will need to hook up amp, etc. I haven't really found a thread with my situation. I know I need speaker adapters and plugs. I read somewhere u could use factory crossovers for tweeters. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd replace all the door speakers with quality units, use dynamat and baffles to keep the bass up a bit, use a high to low pass convertor to simplify the wiring to the amp and replace the factory tweeters with a pair of your choice.

If you have an ext. cab, you will be making your own speaker adpators to bolt in whatevery you want back there.

i too had th stock non bose systm in my truck. what i did was replace all 4 door speakers with infinity references with a 500w 4 channel amp. i kept the stock HU, and like you i only use my ipod. When i had the speakers changed, i realized that the amp was sending all kinds of frequency to the speakers and there was no clarity with the bass. i then put in another 500 w mono amp and 2 10s subs in the low pro box under the seat and i love it. i listen to all kinds of music and the bass is just right for me.

I used the Pac AOEM-GM1416 in my truck to add a amp , if you use this adapter the way it is set up you will also have to run new speaker wires , but you can splice the wires coming from the amp audio out to the Pac adapter and retain your existing speaker wires with just a few cuts and some solder .

Here is a link for it http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_19628_PAC-AOEM-GM1416.html

I'm just hardwiring my speaking inputs to the amp from my rear speakers. The factory speaker wires are right there in the back of the truck, and easily accessible, so with a couple of minor cuts, solder joints, shrink tubing and tape, you'll never know it was done after the fact. You don't loose anything by wiring your speakers direct to the amp with high level inputs over rca's/low level, really and I don't really care for an aftermarket box being wired in series with my factory radio. See too many horror stories with stuff like that causing all kinds of problems with the vehicles that they are installed in, everyday. My amp remote on signal comes off the junction block down by the driver's left foot. Having access to factory schematics makes it kinda nice sometimes.

Thanks for all your replies, looks like I'll be getting the PAC unit and splicing my existing wires. When replacing the factory tweeters, can u just hook them up to existing wires with adapters or splicing? Also anybody know where I can find the wiring diagram so I k kw what wired to use? Thank you.
