2 DVC 4Ohm Sub Wiring??

Recommended Posts

Which sounds better, Stereo 2Ohm or Mono 4Ohm. I currently have my 2 subs wired with a 4Ohm Mono Load, but my amp is stable at 2Ohm Stereo. Before I go rewiring for testing I was hoping for some input on if its even worth it!!

I have 2 audiobahn DVC 4Ohm 400W Subs and an orion Xtreme 500.2 amp, Mono 500W or 250/channel.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks

There is no point in putting your subs in stereo.  Your ears are too close together to distinguish a separation of low frequency sub bass (the wave lengths are just too long).  This is also the reason you can put subs behind you and the bass doesn't sound like it's coming from behind.  Leave your subs in Mono.  However, never put your mids or highs in mono, they always belong in stereo.

What is the difference between 2Ohm or 4Ohm?? I know Ohm is resistance, so my thinking is with 2Ohm I would get more power to the subs?? Is my thinking incorrect?? I am not an electronics wizard so any help on this is appreciated!

As far as power goes, 2 ohm stereo and 4 ohm mono are the same thing.  You won't gain anything.  If they were both mono, usually 2 ohm mono would make more power (some amps are regulated to not do this), but also more heat.  The 2 and 4 ohms are not resistance, they are impedance.

What is the minimum impedence your amp can handle mono?

If it is one ohm stable into a mono load. I would run both speakers in parallel and present a 1 ohm load.

The choice between 2 ohm stereo or 4 ohm mono is really a wash, depending on power ratings given each load.

I would probably lean toward the 4ohm mono for the reasons mentioned above, if your amp is not 1 ohm stable.

Thank You everyone for your help!!

You saved me alot of time, since I am going to leave it at 4 Ohm Mono.

Its nice to know there is a place to go to get good answers from people who really care!!

Thanks again!!
