4x4 whine

i have a 2005 gmc 2500, when it is in four wheel drive it makes a whinning noise only at 25mph and below when braking only then will the noise happen. any help would be really greatful

actully just put it in four wheel last night driving home adn it does it at all tspeeds just you cannot hear it as much at the higher speeds but it makes the most noise below 25mph. Anyone?

Well mine is only a 1500 but it also makes a distinctive whine in 4wd. Lower speeds is much more noticeable, sounds like nature of the beast to me. What kind of roads are you driving on. Don't be driving on dry pavement in 4wd or it will tear up your drivetrain. I'm not a certified mechanic so only stating my opinion.

sounds like we got the same thing. i do drive it on dry pavement, but only for a couple hundred feet to keep oil covered on all the parts

NO 4WD ON HARDPACK SURFACES ,

 

the oil is moving dont worry about it the engineers have it covered for you

 

 

snow,mud ,ice doesnt matter ,its a skating rink,

 

dont do it again......

why is it bad for the drivetrain on dry pavenment? never really under stood that

its to much driveline bind and with different tread depths on tires it gets worse,

had a chance to test the 4x4 on snow last night and i dont here the whine when on snow, so i guess everything is ok
