Rack & Pinion Replacement

Recommended Posts

The last few weeks I have had a rubbing/squeaking noise in my steering column while turning the wheel for slow speed turns such as in a parking lot. Took the truck to the dealer yesterday and had the service manager ride with me to hear the noise. He said it was caused by the seal for the gear box rubbing on the steering column and the whole assembly would need to be replaced. He also said this was the first time he had seen this happen on a GMT900, but it was fairly common on the GMC Acadia.

The dealer ordered the part and is going to replace it tomorrow morning. I am glad the truck is still under warranty as they are going to loan me a vehicle to use for the day as well.

Thought I would share my experience in case somebody else has this same issue, and to see if any of yall experienced this noise or heard of this issue on the GMT900s?
