Remote start add on

So from my understanding

($140 online)GM part number # 17801236= 2 remote start fobs and a gm "number"

OR

($35 online)Gm part number # 15913421= 2 remote start fobs

So i "think" when buying the kit, gm gets you a reflash from the tech 2 for you computer, that way in future service if the computer is reflashed the fobs arent erased...

BUT if you learn the remotes to your truck yourself through the DIC "relearn remote option", they will get deleted if future service is rendered on the computer bc gm hasnt been updated on your install, and you have to relearn the remotes yourself... if this is the only drawback... then thats not a big deal!

Has anyone tried this?

I could be wrong, but simply buying the remotes with the start button and then learning them to your truck will not make the remote start button start the truck. It has to be programmed by the dealer to work. There is more to it than just learning the remote to the truck.

When installing GM remote start option, you get 2 remotes plus an authorization code. The gm technician calls techline with the authorization code and vin #, they enable the remote start on tis2web for the vehicle, then the BCM and VTD get programed with the new software, Once the bcm and vtd is programed with remote start enabled, the rke can be programed with dic or tech 2.

I called around and negotiated it with several dealers. I got a price online, the dealer that did mine matched the online price (shipped) and then charged 1/2 hour labor to install. I think the total was around $220 for me.

I went in showed the parts guy my vin he looked everything up and had to order the fobs took two days for it to get in. Called service department when they come in set up appointment for them to install it, took about 30 to 45 minutes and cost $300.00 not a bad deal if you ask me.:jester:
