Old VIN decoding

Hi, I'm new to this forum and couldn't find a form title that fit my question.

I have an old GMC C60 dump truck. I think it is from 1969. I'm putting in an overhauled 366 big block and need to fix the breaks. There are various parts I can't identify and am looking for an old manual for these trucks. First it to identify the year. It has an old ID number with 12 digits, not 17, so none of the free VIN websites work.

The number is CE631P122819

I figure that the P is for Pontiac and the 122819 is the number in the series made. C may be for Chevy and E for 1 tons, even though I find no recorded combination of C and E. So, what is the model year?

First off ...welcome to GMT.......

 

This might help,at least it's a starting point.Looks like your truck might be a '71.Check the first number after the ''P''.

Thanks, SSFAH, for the information. I think your deduction is the most logical, a '71. The engine number fits that year. It was hard to know if the engine had been replaced. It is being replaced now becasue the oil pump pickup fell off the oil pump and the engine threw a rod. I'm replacing it with the same engine, a 366 big block with four bolt mains, a rebuild I found on Craigs list. I notice on this one that the oil pickup is welded onto the pump body. Naturally the old truck's oil pressure guage didn't work so the driver didn't know it was in trouble.
