Another towing question...

I have a 2005 GMC 1500HD SLT 6.0L 3.73 Axle ratio....dry weight on the travel trailer I want to tow is 8191. We are pretty light packers so at the most I see us towing 9000 lbs. Hitch weight is 835 lbs if that matters. I do have a decent brake controller and it has the trans cooler than came with it.

I bought it to handle a larger camper than we currently have...which is quite light...problem is we kept changing our mind, campers got heavier and this is what we decided on...but haven't purchased yet.

Will I be ok or is this dangerous?

I would say no according to the specs 7900 to 8200 for the 3.73 gears . I think you would be unsafe for other drivers on the road. i could be wrong but I think you would need a bigger truck .

a gallon of water is 8 pounds btw . So if your trailer is 90 gallons of water/grey that is a other 720 pounds . Then you have to add propane,food,and clothes,dishes,and other camping gear.

When I purchased it about a month ago I had looked up online and it said it could tow 10200...probably a huge mistake on my part assuming that was correct

my sticker says gvwr is 8600

What is the tow rating on your 1500HD? Those trucks are pretty stout, but I'm not familiar with the specs. They're basically a rebadged (non-HD) 2500 from previous years, and were discontinued in ~2007.

that is my issue...before I purchased it I saw on quite a few websites that you could tow 10200...but in my owners manual with the 3.73 ratio it says I can only tow like 7900 with my gvwr being 8600

Go down to trailing on it and go to the 1500 HD then look at the 3.73 gear ratio and your engine size . Depending if you have 4x2 or 4x4 you have 7900 to 8200 pounds you can tow.
