I took delivery of this 03 Sierra 4x4 on 12/12/02. It's got the 5.3L engine and the Z71 package. Since then I had a Pendaliner bedliner, Fold-a-Cover tonneau, and a bug deflector installed. This is my first truck and I'm lovin it.

I got my winter blades and Rain-X de-icer. Today I had a set of 245/75R16 Bridgestone Winter Dueler DM-Z2s snow tires on painted steel wheels installed (the dealer reprogrammed speedo). I'm ready for winter! Let it snow, let it snow. let it snow.

The stock tires were 265/75R16. The 245s would be about 1.2" shorter (if I did the math right). So the speedo would think I was going faster than I really was -- which I thought might keep me out of trouble. Anyway the dealer hooked up some sort of gizmo and reprogrammed it.

We are supposed to get hit tomorrow (my fingers are crossed)

Why the shorter tires?

1) Slim pickins this late in the season

2) TireRack recommended the 245s

3) Slim pickins this late in the season

The narrower tire should provide better snow and ice traction (more lbs per sq in due to smaller footprint).

The TireRack charged me $55 per steel wheel which I thought quite reasonable. I then ordered a set of centercaps from the dealer. $38 per cap plus I needed to order threaded lug nuts at $1.80 x 20 (each wheel already had one threaded locking nut).

I briefly considered a trek to the local Wal-Marts for hub caps. But hey, my dealers been good to me and it's Christmas!

And as far as this snow thing goes, I'll be heading east out of  Rochester NY on Christmas day. Sounds like I might run into some snow... (be careful what you wish for)

did tirerack deliver them to your home?  I am thinking about getting my tires from them but one cool thing is they opened up a HUGE warehouse in south bend indiana which is about 2 hrs away (30 min from our summer fishing cottage) so i could just go there and pick them up  :(

Yes, I had the tires delivered to my home. Shipping cost me about $75 (from Indiana). But then I didn't pay sales tax which here in NY would have been $50.

The tires were $98. I didn't do any serious cost comparisons. I've come to trust TireRack (my 5th set of tires from them). The one local tire shop wanted $87 for Cooper WinterMasters which the TireRack was asking $69.

Tires.com was offering free shipping but they didn't have the wheels (or tires).
