Cooled Seats

Hey all, traded off my '04 Sierra Z71 SLE back in February for a '12 Silverado LTZ Z71, with the heated and cooled seats. How do the cooled seats actually work? When I click mine on I can hear what sounds like a small blower motor in the back of the cab start up but I really don't notice much, if any cooling to the seats. Anyone familiar with these? Thanks

Don't really know how they work. Someone did a decent write up awhile ago. A search should bring it up. Mine turn into a block of ice pretty quick (within a couple minutes). However the effectiveness seems to depend on the weight of the clothes I'm wearing. For example wearing a thick pair of new jeans doesn't make the seat feel nearly as cold as if I'm wearing basketball shorts (wearing nothing is a whole different story!) or at least I feel the cold much sooner with lighter weight clothing. Either way it will get to the point where it feels like I'm on a block of ice after awhile.

They are cooled using thermoelectric cooling (Peltier effect). Same principle as those plug in 12v coolers you can buy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_cooling

 

Mine get really cool. Takes a while but I can't leave them on high.

Hmm, after reading your responses I'm wondering if mine is really working. I'm a jeans and t-shirt guy, I drive about 15 miles one way to & from work, and clicking it on when I leave I really don't notice it cooling off. I may need to check it out further tomorrow. Thanks
