Just a quick FYI, the wonderfull state of NJ will start enforcing "dog restraint" laws while driving. While the fine for an unseabelted motorist (human) is something like 45.00 plus cc,,,the fine for an unrestrained dog will be a min of 250.00 ,not to exceed 1000.0. Second and subsequent offenses may carry jail time. Here,s the rub,,,,the dog fine does NOT fall under NJ MV code, it falls under the SPCA, and the charge can read "Cruel and inhumane transportation of animals". be wary of automaticaly paying the fine as this is tandamount to a guilty plea ,and you will have a misemeanor on your record. So much for taking the guys on dump runs on sat.s eh? Thank you NJ, Peta, and the HSUS...what a retarded group. BTW,,,,HSUS, in case anyone thought was a US sanctioned organisation,,,is not, There is NO..i repeat,,,NO,,,United States SPCA,, nor is there one under the guidence of the USDA, HSUS is a front and fund collector for Peta, and they do not in fact, operate a single shelter.

wow, glad to see that PETA has ruined my dogs ride in the bed. I understand that you don't want to harm the dog in an accident but at the end of the day there still just an animal. Kinda sad how they value a dog over a human. Jersey is turning into California East with all these stupid ars rules.

I think i should have been more specifc. To clarify: the law applies to dogs riding anywhere, in any vehicle, without restraint, I have the X cab specificly for my guys to ride in the back seat, and now n then the big boy will think he owns the frt pass. seat. I,ve had dogs riding with me for nigh onto 30 yrs (now be nice ..no jokes..lmao),,,,but this law makes having your buddy tag along illegal. (i,m missing a vent grill in my Suburban, the dog in my profile pic rides in the frt seat with his nose stuffed in the dash hole...lol)

Who is supposed to issue the ticket? I know most local and state officers probably won't know of the law and if they do would only issue it if you were asking to pay more fines.

This does not suprise me at all. NJ is one of only two states that you are not allowed to pump your own gas. When I tried to pump my own, the attendant said if I did that, it would be a $700 fine and the cop was watching me to see if I did it. I told him that people in Va are much smarter than the idiots in NJ. Afterall, we even have gas pumps at grocery stores and Walmarts. I then asked him if he was a member of a mafia run "Gas Pumpers Union". Not finding any humor in my comments, I was the last one to get fuel.

The Gas thing is probably due to the "Other organised Crime" in Nj,,Insurance companies. It does however, provide entry level and senior jobs for allot of people , so we dont complain about it, NJ still has lower gas prices then the surrounding states...and it,s nice to stay warm n cozy in the winter, :)

As far as who would issue the "restraint" tickets, Police woult issue the ticket but the "teeth" woulld be backed by the SPCA. As far as officers knowing what to issue, believe me,they,d be aware of it. I dont expect a trmendous fallout from this, but the fact that it,s on the books just irritates the hell outa me. It opens up a huge can of worms, both for the private dog loving sector, as well as poilice K-9 units, Are police dogs exempt? , or are they to be restrained to the point of tactically useless ? My guys lounging on the back seat enroute to a show or competition, or just a jaunt to the lake or wherever else they love to tag along,,,,puts me in danger of a a misdemeanor crime? As long as legislatures cave in to Peta for $$$ for constituants, Peta will continue it,s absolute lack of common sense ranting and control.

Lets see where to start, I agree it should be up to the owner whether or not to get the seat belt strap for the dog or not. I think thats a bit far in the tooth for a law I have to say. On the other hand, It's not the end of the of world, they're like what 20 or 30 bucks so you can still take your dog with you wherever... I mean the downside to not having the dog constrained is it becomes a dangerous weight in a good size crash. Dog goes flying through windshield barring it doesn't hit people inside the car in a rollover causing more injury but going through the windshield of the oncoming car etc... Having the dog in the bed loose which in my opinion is stupid and reckless as it can go through the back window etc nor for the fact its a dog and no matter how well trained can jump out of the bed. I dont know how you treat your pets, but our dog is part of our family at the end of the day, and compared to some people I would put far more value in a dog then some people. Do I belt mine no, I did on my previous dog, my wife ties the leash to the belt since our Shepard/Husky mix likes to go back and forth on the back seat. Peta does some good but for the most part they are a bunch of whacknuts. Those people should be sterilized so as not to breed more stupidity lol. Good at heart but not in the way they carry out to do things to help animals.

My wears his doggy seatbelt. He sits in the front passenger seat.

I don't agree with seatbelt laws to begin with. Personally I do wear my seatbelt all of the time - but not because of the law, I feel safer. I think it should be my choice though. It also should be my choice for objects that I own, I do not have to secure my cell phone. I my state a pet is considered personal property, with the exception of some basic cruelty stuff I can do what I want with my dog. I don't need the government telling me what I can do with my dog.

Who does the enforcement of such laws?

Is this a primary offense meaning any officer can pull you over for an unbuckled dog? Primary meaning that the only observed violation is a loose dog?

Really? My Sibe & GSD ride in my truck on the big comfy seats (which are covered to protect from fur tumbleweeds) they know they have to lay down or sit up and be still.....this is kind of ridiculous imo. There are tons of people with their hunting dogs etc riding the in the bed and they have a lead long enough they can't go anywhere but they get to enjoy the air. Next they're going to say they can't go out unless they've been wrapped in bubble wrap with a freaking padded helmet and everyone else has to be in a bite suit.

Problem is there,s too many whack job Peta freaks with enough money to bend a lawmakers ear, convince them its a good thing and slide enough money to some districts pet (no pun intended) project that needs funding. These laws usally end up not being headline bills,,,but abscure addendums to larger bills, By the time the public finds out it,s a reality,,it,s too late. Peta in particular gets most of the laws it wants this way.

This is nothing new and is in NJ PC. It just appears that PETA is pushing enforcement. Note the dates at the bottom.

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
