3.42 to 4.10 worth it?

I have an 06 Silverado with a 5.3 and 3.42's. The truck is a dog for towing, and I have a black bear tune which helped. Would it be worth the money to swap the gears to 4.10's? I am not sure what it would cost, would it make more sense just to trade in for what I want?

Figure out a budget of what you want to spend first.

New gears: 1500-2000

New(er) Truck: 20000+

There are obvious perks to a new(er) truck but there are also much higher costs involved.

No doubt the 4.10's will make for a better towing vehicle. I'd have to balance how much I was towing, and how much I just used the truck for transportation. Just a thought.

Cut that in half for 2wd.

Edit: I see Op's sig now.

What kind of loads are you hauling? I agree 3.42s aren't the best choice for towing but not horrible either. I've enjoyed mine but next truck will have lower gears.

I just bought a 19' ranger boat that weighs in around 5000lb. My truck struggles alot with this boat. I just am not sure what to do. I don't want another truck payment, so that is why I was looking to replacing the gears. My truck is 4WD, so it would cost more. I don't drive it much at all besides towing the boat and utility trailers, otherwise I drive my car so I could care less about gas mileage.

To the OP: I've got the same truck, towing a 5000-5500# travel trailer. I've begged my wife for 4.10's. So far, no dice.

Get em if you can, and then write how sweet it is.
