Mossyoakglock Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 When you guys check your transmission fluid level, is there a distinct mark/line that you can see to determine the transmission fluid level? When I check mine I cannot see a distinct line of where the fluid stops to check the level. I changed the fluid about 5,000 miles ago and at the time it was right on the money. I checked it again this morning when I got to the garage at work and I could not tell exactly where the level was. I drive about 15 miles to work, all interstate and the transmission was at about 150*. I checked it per the manual but couldn't tell 100% if it was low or not.
brainpause Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I agree. It is hard to tell. I just do my best.
DaveH71 Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Run the vehicle till it gets to operating temp. Remove the dipstick. Will in the drivers seat run the vehicles through all the gears and hold for about 5 seconds each. Place vehicle in park and re insert dry dipstick for about 5 seconds and then remove to check level. Should get you a good reading.
txab Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 When the fluid is fresh and clean, it can be difficult to get a reading sometime. I try to check in bright sunshine and twist the dipstick back and forth looking for the demarcation between wet and dry
Doug_Scott Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 You can also use a kleenex to see the level. Take a new kleenex and use the edge of it to see where the level is. You can do this by moving the edge of the tissue along the stick, stopping when you see it wick up fluid. You will need to wipe the stick well before checking the level to avoid having fluid on the stick from splashing.
