Going to look at a 2010 tomorrow

Hi all, going to look at a 2010 Sierra 1500 4x4 longbox ext.cab with a 5.3 on a private dealers lot. This vehicle has about 55,000 km's or around 35,000 miles or so on it and I was wondering if there is any areas that need to be looked at very closely or what I should be checking for.

I am currently driving a 03 2500hd so this line of trucks is new to me.

Since it has the 5.3 and has 35K on the clock it would be nice to know if it is one of the AFM oil burners, but I don't know any way you could tell just looking at it. If you do decide it's something you'd like, vin it and have someone with access to the GM network look at its warranty history. Realize the vehicle will have warranty, so you are not totally out of luck if there is a problem, but with the price of used trucks in my area, you might could get into a new one for not much more.

Bumper to bumper warranty on truck may only be for another month or so, depending on original purchase date, or how long it takes to go 5k. I would be wondering how it ended up on a private dealer's lot. I assume this is Canada you are talking about, maybe ask the dealer if they have the carfax or carproof on it.

Definately get the service history to see if there was an AFM problem. If there is a record of GM installing teh deflection shield OR doing usage tests, turn around and run.

I bought it, the car proof was clean, no records at all. The warranty history shows only a fuse replaced at around 6000 KM's.Drove it home and I have no complaints. What is the issue with oil burning?

Congrats. Hopefully you got one that doesn't and won't have the oil burning issues. Just a lot of reports of AFM equipped trucks requiring engine work after they start to drink oil. Doesn't happen to everyone, tough to tell how many trucks it does affect, but it is one of the more talked about issues with these trucks.
