park assist warning

My 2013 has had the parking assist blocked warning on for 3 days. Before booking it at the dealership, I checked the manual and it tells me that if there is a tow bar, the warning will show???

I have ALWAYS had a hitch on my truck--stops those idiots that run into you from wrecking my truck, they just wreck their cars on the hitch, haha--and never had a problem with the parking assist. This is the 3rd truck with all the same options .. . . Is this ultra sensitive? needs adjusting?

So why was this never a problem on the previous 2 trucks?

They probably have tweaked the system over the years. Lots of subtle changes get made to vehicles that aren't advertised.

And just putting this out there- using a hitch to "prevent" damage is stupid. For one you have insurance and more important, all that force from a rear end collision channeled through the hitch directly to the frame will probably do more damage than if they just hit the (crappy, I'll admit that) bumpers.

I have an extended hitch that I use for pulling my 2 place snowmobile trailer, it is probably 6'' longer than a "standard" hitch. If I leave that hitch mounted, it causes my park senses to go nuts. So simple as that I drive without a hitch unless I need it.

It sure keeps those old folks in the parking lots from sitting on my bumper . .. I swear to you, every single day, I see at least one vehicle literally kissing the bumper in front of them in the parking lot at work . .. High percentage of seniors in this town, maybe that's why? They don't even back up after they've done it so they apparently have no idea. Just park and leave!! Amazing . . .
