Exhaust Upgrade Worthwhile?

06 1500 5.3l Ext Cab 4x4 .. Exhaust a worthwhile upgrade? I want to get a BB Tune but I want to decide on exhaust one way or another first.

and if I do upgrade do I do Headers and all.. A Cat back seems to be mostly for sound not much in the way of performance upgrades..

Open train of thought, opinions welcome.

I also had a sidenote question... My gas cap seems messed up. No matter how much you turn it, it'll keep turning, it never really tightens up I have no lights or performance issues.. Is this normal and something I didn't previously notice? Sure seems like it should tighten up at some point

I think it's worth it, just for better sound. That is if you just cut off the factory muffler and weld something else on. It's hard for me to justify $500+ for new pipes. If you wanna do headers, go ahead, but from what I've heard you'll get a lot more out of the tune than anything else.

Try a different gas cap (they're cheap) and see if that fixes it.

Yeah.. I'm really not too concerned with sound. I'm happy with stock in that regard, I was mostly hoping to increase MPG and/or throttle response and/or increased power. The first two being the more important ones for me..

and yeah I'll give a new cap a whirl

Does the cap click when tightening like a ratchet or just keep spinning? They only tighten so far before the clicking noise.

On the exhaust note, I can't justify cutting good exhaust off just to spend in excess of $100.00 to get more noise, I would wait for it to fall of and find something better to blow a hundred bucks on.

So, leaving the exhaust alone for now it is. if it rots out I'd definitely be far more inclined to do it up with at the very least a cat back.

OFF TO ORDER DAT BB TUNE CABLE.. Thanks everyone..

Oh as for the gas cap.. Im really not sure, it just doesn't feel right. It doesn't click, it just kind of spins even though it does seem to be sort of halfway tight. I replaced it with a $10 Crappy tire special and it seems to be working fine, I might order an OEM one for the convenience of the hangy-cable deal.
